I created this beer for a friend here in the Mad River Valley, Ken Kenia, who has spent the last 10 years perfecting the crafting of beautiful chandeliers, lamps, wine racks, and other functional artwork out of naturally shed antlers. While Ken partakes of his fair share of Vermont’s hoppy love including Lawson’s Finest Sip of Sunshine, Alchemist’s Heady Topper & Focal Banger, and Fiddlehead’s Mastermind & Second Fiddle, but he also enjoys a crisp clean, simpler beer; and ambers were right there on the top of his list. The final grain bill (after 8 batches of futzing around and many many tastings) created what we think is a lovely beer that has a hint of sweetness with some caramel and orange flavors. The hop aroma is low and it has a moderate to light body. It ferments out at just under 5% ABV, so you can enjoy a few without knocking over any stacks of Moose antlers on your workbench.
